Faculty, academic staff, and scientists may apply to African Studies for up to $5000 to bring international collaborators to UW-Madison for short-term visits. The purpose of this award is to enable members of our campus community to deepen connections with scholars from Africa.
UW-Madison faculty, academic staff, and staff scientists may apply to host a scholar. The host or visiting scholar should present on the collaboration in an Africa at Noon seminar during the visit or within one year after the visit.
Awards will be a maximum of $5000. Travel must be completed between Jun 1-Dec 31, 2017.
The host scholar is responsible for securing local housing and arranging any local transportation for the visiting scholar. African Studies can work with the host scholar to secure an Z90NN Honorary Associate/Honorary Fellow zero-dollar appointment for the visiting scholar, which is a necessary first step in securing a J-1 visa. This appointment will give the visiting scholar access to campus libraries and other resources. African Studies will book the airfare of the visiting scholar directly and will make the balance of the award available. African Studies can assist the host scholar with publicity for events or activities related to the visit, as needed.
Applications for the 2017 awards will be due March 27, 2017.
