As a Title VI National Resource Center for Africa, the African Studies Program sometimes is able to support UW-Madison faculty research projects. This year we have funds available for faculty awards.
Any faculty member proposing research related to the study of Africa is eligible to apply. Faculty need not be current affiliates of the African Studies Program. Recipients of the awards should present research results in an Africa at Noon seminar during 2017-2018 academic year. Applicants who are not already African Studies faculty affiliates are strongly encouraged to become affiliates.
Awards will be a maximum of $5000. The awards are intended for summer travel between May-September 2017. Funds may only be used for faculty travel expenses and cannot be used to support graduate student travel or other expenses.
At this time, African Studies does not anticipate offering Travel Awards or International Collaborator Awards in 2018. These programs will resume in 2019, pending the availability of federal funds.
Please submit a two-page description of the project to email@example.com . The narrative should describe the significance of the research and indicate what sort of research product is anticipated. The two-page request should also explain when and where the travel will occur and how the support — a maximum of $5,000 — would be used. Please list any other funding being sought or already obtained to support this project.
