Congratulations to Dr. Jacqueline-Bethel Tchouta Mougoué, Associate Professor of African Cultural Studies at UW-Madison, for being named this year’s 1st Runner Up for the African Studies Association of Africa’s Pius Adesanmi Memorial Award for Excellence in African Writing. Her book titled Gender, Separatist Politics, and Embodied Nationalism in Cameroon illustrates how issues of ideal womanhood shaped the Anglophone Cameroonian nationalist movement in the first decade of independence in Cameroon. Her work was unanimously selected for this honorary mention by the Jury of the ASAA Pius Adesanmi Memorial Award for Excellence in African Writing. The Jury found the piece “excellent in terms of intellectual quality,” and a high contributor to methodological, conceptual and theoretical innovation in African Studies.
