“Jimma University (Ethiopia): An Introduction and Opportunities for Collaboration”

Dr. Jemal Abafita
Dr. Abafita is both the President of Jimma University and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics. His research interests center around childhood nutrition and educational attainment, gender differences in child survival, mental and reproductive health among adolescents and young adults, and rural livelihoods and sustainable development.

 

 

Kora Tushune
Mr. Tushune is the Vice President for Business and Development of Jimma University. He has a master’s degree from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where he studied Health Policy, Planning, and Financing. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Gent University in Belgium where he is studying Health Policy.

 

 

Dr. Mohammed Mecha Abafogi
Dr. Abafogi is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at and Chief Executive Director (CED) of the Jimma University Institute of Health. Dr. Mohammed is a physician with an interest in interventional cardiology.

 

 

 

Dr. Esayas Kebede Gudina 
Dr. Gudina is the Chief Clinical and Academic Director of the Jimma Medical Center. Dr. Esayas is trained in Internal Medicine, Tropical Medicine, and International Health. He completed his PhD at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 2016 and presented a thesis titled, “Assessment of Treatment Strategies in Acute Bacterial Meningitis in Ethiopia.”
