BIO

Rebecca Shumway is a historian of 18th and 19th century West Africa and the Atlantic World with a focus on coastal Ghana (Fante). She is the author of Slavery and its Legacy in Ghana and the Diaspora, edited with Trevor Get (2017, Bloomsbury Academic Press), as well as The Fante and the Transatlantic Slave Trade (2011, University of Rochester Press -Rochester Studies in African History and the Diaspora) which was a finalist in the 2012 Herskovits Prize (African Studies Association).
