Description
Todd Ramón Ochoa’s talk will explore Palo, a Kongo-inspired “society of affliction,” and what Palo can tell us about sensation, transformation, and redemption in the Black Atlantic. Palo offers unexpected resources for understanding the relationship between matter and spirit and allows us to reformulate representations of power in Cuban society.

Co-sponsored by Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies (LACIS).

This lecture is supported by a UW-Madison Mellon Foundation grant for the advancement of area and international studies.
