Description

Dominant in Ghana, informal financial institutions known as “susu” represent weaknesses to the political state, and limited economic agency among the poor. This presentation will explore the policy strategy of formalizing informal financial systems as well as the economic and political consequences.

Bio

Kweku Opoku-Agyemang is an Applied Economics postdoctoral researcher who focuses on the political economy of non-market institutions. He earned his Ph.D. in Development at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2012. Kweku was a National Service Person at the Ministry of Education of the Government of Ghana in 2004.
