Description:
This presentation makes use of Walter Benjamin’s “Theses on the Philosophy of History” to explore Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart as a project of historical reclamation.

Speaker’s Bio:
Sofia Samatar studies modern Egyptian and Sudanese literatures in the Department of African Languages and Literature. She has an M.A. from the department and is preparing a dissertation proposal on the uses of fantasy in the fiction of Tayeb Salih. Her interests include world literature, comparative literature, circulation and reception studies, fantasy and science fiction, and translation.
