Eight doctoral students, including African Studies students Marguerite Heckscher and Teresa Speciale, have received U.S. Department of Education grants through the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) program.
According to UW-Madison News, the purpsoe of these grants is “to deepen knowledge of areas of the world not generally included in U.S. educational programs and to build a cadre of students, educators and other professionals with deep global expertise.”
Heckscher will conduct research on art history in Tanzanian, and Speciale will explore education policy studies in Senegal.
