Outreach Scholars Program
The African Studies Program is seeking graduate and undergraduate students with extensive experience living, working, or studying in Africa to be a part of our Outreach Scholars program.
African Studies Outreach Scholars enrich school curricula and community events by sharing their research expertise, life stories, and/or artistic skills. Our Outreach Scholars facilitate learning experiences that go beyond the textbook to expand students’, teachers’, and community members’ understandings of different African contexts.
Training and Benefits
Outreach Scholars participate in an initial training workshop and receive ongoing support as they develop and facilitate presentations, most of which occur in K-12 settings in Madison and Dane County.
As they share their knowledge and expertise in classrooms and community settings, Outreach Scholars gain valuable public speaking and teaching skills that they bring with them to future experiences in academia and beyond. Outreach scholars will receive monetary compensation for all programs presented.
