The African Studies Program wishes all the best to our faculty affiliate Dr. Cynthia Haq, who is leaving UW-Madison for an important leadership role at the University of California-Irvine.
Dr. Haq has played a pivotal role in establishing and leading foundational programs at UW, including the Center for Global Health, which she led from its inception in 2003 through 2011, and the Training in Urban Medicine and Public Health (TRIUMPH) medical student training track, which she has directed since its creation in 2008. Her research centers on primary health care, family medicine education and program development, community and public health, and design/evaluation of training for health professionals in medically undeserved settings. She is internationally renowned for her passion and commitment to developing systems of care for underserved populations, and she will be greatly missed by her colleagues at the African Studies Program.
Dr. Haq will start her post as the next Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of California-Irvine on January 1, 2018.
