Call for Proposals
This year’s theme rests on an urgent line of inquiry: What has the pandemic revealed about the type of world we need to rebuild and reconstruct to foster a new feminist future(s)? What have recent local, national, and global events taught us about empathy, inclusion, and justice as we grapple with the present but turn a hopeful gaze toward the future? As we pause to consider “Centering Resistance: Imaginings of a New Feminist Future,” we invite proposals that foreground an intersectional-feminist lens to map out inclusive societal structures, equitable institutional frameworks, cross-movement solidarities, and radical reimaginings of the future. We invite scholars, students, activists, artists, civil society leaders, and all members of the community to reflect on lessons learned and hopes for the future. How has the pandemic exposed and exacerbated existing systemic inequalities and everyday barriers? What possibilities have emerged from these same moments for reconceiving what is possible and necessary for the collective good? Which movements for justice already have the tools for mapping these responses? Proposals that foreground Black, Asian, Latinx, and Indigenous experiences alongside other axes of social identity are strongly encouraged.
We welcome proposals for pre-recorded presentations, virtual art exhibitions, virtual posters, and synchronous roundtables in the areas described below. We encourage topics that merge and make connections across threads, as we recognize the many intersections in these communities and in their work of resistance.
- Climate Justice and Ecofeminism
- Pedagogies of Care and Equity
- Refusing the Colonial State
- Crip Resistance in a Post-Covid World
- Queering Praxis, Expressions, and Activism
- Global Migration, Identity, and Freedom
Proposals from All Communities and Disciplines Sought!
As an interdisciplinary and community-focused conference, we welcome all disciplines, schools, and colleges, and hope to represent work from the sciences, social sciences, humanities, the arts, and community-focused organizations and movements for justice. We welcome submissions from Women’s Studies, Gender Studies, LGBTQ+ Studies, and Sexuality Studies. We also encourage proposals from studies related to other historically marginalized groups, including African Studies, African American Studies, Native American Studies, Latin American Studies, and all area studies from around the world. We encourage intersection with areas such as Ethnic Studies, Class Studies, Disability Studies, International Studies, Poverty Studies, Peace Studies, Global Health, Environmental and/or Sustainability Studies, and other inter-disciplines. Proposals from activists and community scholars are also strongly encouraged.
