UGANDA, KAMPALA AND KALANGALA
Health Access Connect links Ugandans living in remote areas with healthcare resources. The organization hosts monthly, 1-day health clinics in remote villages of Uganda that allow people to access essential health services like anti-retroviral treatment, malaria treatment, child checkups, and family planning.
Health Access Connect offers two internships:
- Media & Communications Intern
- Monitoring & Evaluation Intern
The Media & Communications Intern will assist with the following:
- Gathering photos and video of field sites
- Documenting impacts of health services activities
- Posting photos, video, and other media on social media, newsletters, and website
- Documenting #accessforall stories (like Humans of NY) and helping to craft media campaigns
- Helping to send follow-up communications and reports to donors
- Helping to compile paperwork for grant applications
This is a good position for someone who would like to gain international experience working with a non-profit organization and seeing what it takes to maintain the organization and what fieldwork is like in remote, rural areas. The organization needs someone who can help us translate what is happening on the ground to a US-based audience. Be prepared to rough it and meet a lot of interesting people!
The Monitoring & Evaluation Intern will assist with the following:
- Implementing and improving data collection tools in the communities and health facilities where we operate
- Documenting the impacts of HAC programs
- Conducting “implementation research” to uncover why there may be problems, such as low attendance, slow beginning to clinics, and medicine stock-outs
- Compiling literature reviews of relevant academic and policy research
- Writing up findings and suggesting improvements to monitoring and evaluation
- Help with development of Salesforce database (online training easy and available)
This is a good position for someone who would like to gain experience researching in remote, rural areas, which involves applying research theories and methodologies to our work as practitioners. The organization needs someone to work as a Monitoring & Evaluation Officer to gather data, adjust research methodologies, analyze results, and write up findings. Be prepared to rough it, help with research in complicated villages, and see how research methods are put into practice!
This internship requires enrollment in the Worldwide Internship Program, which includes an online international internship course. Students in the program will need to pay a study abroad fee based on residency. See the academics and costs tabs for more information.
