Outreach – Great Texts in Wisconsin Program

Great Texts Program

The Great World Texts in Wisconsin encourages more high school and university students to read classic world texts and connect and engage UW faculty with high-school teachers across the state in this project.

The African Studies Program has joined hands with the Center for the Humanities to celebrate Chinua Achebe’s 1958 novel, Things Fall Apart, in the 2009-10 Great World Texts in Wisconsin program.

Nearly 800 high school students from across the state—from Bangor to Milwaukee—are reading Things Fall Apart for this program.

African Studies Program affiliated faculty and graduate students provide participating educators with background on the history, literature, and popular culture of Nigeria and explore the historical and political context surrounding Things Fall Apart.
