Kikeh Mato with Limanya Drum and Dance Ensemble

Two percussive acts are set to take the terrace stage on June 23. Kikeh Mato, an Afro-Pop band led by Mandjou Mara, and Limanya Drum and Dance Ensemble, will showcase traditional music and dance from Guinea and Mali, West Africa. Friday’s concert is presented as part of the Wisconsin Union’s Terrace After Dark Music + Film Series.

Manjour Mara is a griot from Guinea. He named his group Kikeh Mato meaning “look at the moon,” paying homage to the parallel roles of the griot and the moon in Guinea. Both are thought to provide solace, inspiration, and hope.

Limanya Drum and Dance Ensemble, under the direction of Manjou Mara and Maya Kadakia, perform traditional music and dance from Guinea and Mali, West Africa. To read more about the performers and the event, visit the Wisconsin Union calendar.
