Emmanuel Urey Yarkpawolo received his degrees from the UW-Madison Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies in 2018. Emmanuel’s M.S. thesis was concerned land tenure reform and his Ph.D. concerned the social and ecological consequences of oil palm plantations in Liberia. Since graduating, Dr. Urey has been active in the educational sector in Liberia, establishing One Life Liberia, a nonprofit organization, and serving as the president of Salvation Army Polytechnic, a Liberian technical college.
Dr. Urey is now the Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Liberia People’s Party in Liberia. He is running with presidential candidate and prominent human rights lawyer, Tiawan Saye Gongloe on an anti-corruption campaign. Liberia’s national elections will take place on October 10, 2023.
