Bio
Eskedar Awgichew Ergete is the founder and executive director of Eco-justice Ethiopia, a local NGO/think tank dedicated to promoting environmental and climate justice in Ethiopia. He previously served as the head of the Environment and Natural Resources Law Center at Mekelle University, where he is also a law school lecturer. Eskedar’s commitment to driving positive change extends to research-based advocacy, consulting on sustainable legislation, and raising awareness for effective implementation. His expertise has led to collaborations with international development actors and national government bodies. As a consultant, he excels in stakeholder mapping and crafting comprehensive legal drafts. An advocate for environmental and climate justice, Eskedar actively partners with organizations worldwide, focusing on Africa. He is a 2018 Mandela Washington Fellow at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, and a member of the Horn of Africa Climate Security Working Group and Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance. He is also a 2023 Chevening Fellow at Coventry University, UK. Beyond his academic and professional achievements, Eskedar is a licensed attorney.
