The Muslim Students Association (MSA) at UW–Madison is a student-led organization focused on building a strong, welcoming community for Muslim students on campus. At its core, the MSA exists to create a space where students can practice their faith, find belonging, and grow together throughout their college years. The organization is open to the entire UW–Madison community and works to make campus a more supportive and inclusive environment for Muslim students.

In addition to hosting programs, the MSA actively advocates for Muslim students at the university level. This includes working to secure and maintain accessible prayer spaces so that students are able to fulfill their daily religious obligations. The MSA also provides practical services such as mentorship programs that connect younger students with upperclassmen, roommate matching to help students find compatible living situations, and general guidance for navigating campus life. For many students, especially those new to Madison, the MSA becomes a steady support system and a second home.

The MSA regularly brings in speakers from across the country to engage with students and offer reminders, perspective, and guidance. In addition, it hosts weekly programs, study circles, and community gatherings that give students space to reflect, ask questions, and strengthen their understanding of their faith.

Service is also a core part of what the MSA stands for. Members are encouraged to put their faith into action by volunteering in the Madison community and organizing campus initiatives that support humanitarian causes. Whether it is raising funds, spreading awareness, or serving locally, the goal is to make sure faith is not just something discussed at events but something practiced in everyday life.

One of the MSA’s largest annual initiatives is Charity Week, held every October. Throughout the week, the organization hosts events each day highlighting communities around the world affected by war, poverty, and natural disasters. Through educational programming and fundraising efforts, students come together to support global relief work and stand in solidarity with those facing hardship.

The MSA also partners closely with the broader Madison Muslim community, building relationships with local masajid, scholars, families, and organizations. These connections help bridge campus life with the wider community and create opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and service beyond the university setting.

This commitment to philanthropy is especially pertinent in the annual Orphan Sponsorship Dinner, organized in partnership with Islamic Relief USA. This year’s dinner will be held on Sunday, February 22nd from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Union South, Varsity Hall 1 and 2. The event brings together students and community members to raise funds in support of orphan care initiatives around the world, while also strengthening ties between campus and community.

Throughout the year, signature events such as iftars, workshops, social gatherings, and educational programs create opportunities for connection and joy. Ultimately, the MSA strives to help students grow not only academically, but spiritually and socially as well.
