The African Studies Program is sad to report the death of Daniel Kunene, emeritus professor in the Department of African Languages and Literature. Professor Kunene taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for over 30 years and was an award-winning author of poetry and short stories, an acclaimed translator, and a civil rights activist in the struggle against apartheid.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to the University of Wisconsin Foundation for the Professor Daniel Kunene Scholarship Fund for African Languages and Literature. Those who wish to donate may visit this site or write a check to the UW Foundation (for the Professor Daniel Kunene Scholarship Fund), U.S. Bank Lockbox, Box 78807, Milwaukee, WI 53278-0807.
