World Refugee Day Events

In order to celebrate World Refugee Day on June 20, the Jewish Social Services of Madison, the Madison Refugee Union and Open Doors for Refugees will be hosting a number of events during the week of Monday, June 17.

World Refugee Day Film and Panel Discussion

Time: June 17th, 6-8pm

Location: Central Library, Community Room (Meeting Room 302), 201 W Mifflin St., Madison, WI 53703

Screening of award-winning documentary, “This is Home” followed by panel discussion. “This is Home” is an intimate portrait of four Syrian refugee families arriving in America and struggling to find their footing. Watch the film and get the chance to discuss what it’s like to be resettled in Madison with those of have experienced it.

World Refugee Day Town Hall Event

Town Hall Event – Panel Discussion on Coming to Madison as a Refugee. June 20th is World Refugee Day. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be resettled in Madison? Come listen and ask questions of resettlement professionals and Madison residents of refugee background.  Light refreshments provided.

Open Doors for Refugees 4th Annual Picnic – Building Community Together

Time: June 23rd 12-5 pm, lunch served at 1 pm. Please bring a dish to share!

Location: Olin Park Pavillion

The Open Doors for Refugees community picnic is our annual gathering for newly arrived refugee families and community members that support resettlement and immigration efforts in the Madison area. The picnic has now become a flagship event for Open Doors for Refugees with 250-400 attendees annually. There will be musical and performance entertainment, savory foods and activities for kids and families throughout the day.
