2019 Mandela Washington Fellowship to host public event next weekend

The African Studies Program is thrilled to share the following on behalf of the 2019 Mandela Washington Fellows. The Fellows have conceptualized and organized a free, public event for the local community. All are welcome.

DATE: Sunday, June 21
TIME: 1-3pm
LOCATION: Pyle Center 702 Langdon St.

On Sunday, 21 July 2019, 25 African Fellows from 18 different countries on the continent will host a public event titled ‘Africa: The Untold Story’.

Over the course of the event, fellows will entertain, educate and exhibit some of The Untold wonders and good news from their home countries and the continent we call home.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, begun in 2014, is the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) that empowers young people through academic coursework, leadership training, and networking. In 2019, the Fellowship will provide 700 outstanding young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa with the opportunity to hone their skills at a U.S. college or university with support for professional development after they return home.

The Fellows, who are between the ages of 25 and 35, have established records of accomplishment in promoting innovation and positive impact in their organizations, institutions, communities, and countries.

Come through to the Pyle Center for a day of fun, learning, and entertainment. There will be fun prizes up for grabs!
