The African Studies Initiative at the Institute for Global Studies/University of Minnesota and CARLA are collaborating to offer a limited number of $500-$1250 stipends for educators of African Languages (including Arabic and Portuguese) in order to attend a CARLA summer institute. Any K-14 educator who teaches an African language, including Arabic and Portuguese, is eligible to apply. Minneapolis/St Paul area educators are eligible for the $500 stipend. Educators taking an online course are eligible for the $500 stipend. Educators who travel more than 100 miles to attend a CARLA institute are eligible for the $1250 stipend. (Note: University of MN instructors are not eligible for this stipend; they may apply for the U of MN LCTL Teacher Scholarship listed above.)

- Submit a one-page resume and a one-page letter of introduction in which you address how the stipend will aid your professional development and how the Summer Institute will aid your teaching of the African less commonly taught language. Please note: You will be required to register and pay for the institute ahead of time. The $500-$1250 stipends will be processed following the conclusion of the institute. Payment is typically received within 3-4 weeks.
