Submit your art to the 2018 ASA Program Cover Art Prize

The African Studies Association is pleased to announce a call for submissions for the newly created 2018 ASA Program Cover Art Prize. We invite members to share their creative talents by submitting original artwork to be featured as the 2018 ASA  Program Cover. The Prize will be awarded to the artist whose submission best exemplifies and celebrates the Annual Meeting theme and is appropriate for the ASA Annual Meeting program cover.

The winner of this year’s ASA Program Cover Art Prize, in addition to having their artwork included on the program,  will receive a full-page biographical sketch in the program, a $500 award, a plaque presented during the Annual Awards Ceremony, free registration to attend the ASA Annual Meeting, and space in the ASA exhibit hall to feature and/or sell their artist work.

The ASA Prorgam Cover Art Prize is open to all living artists of Africa and the global African diaspora and artists of all heritages whose work directly addresses the theme of the Annual Meeting, over the age of 18 years from the announcement of the competition. The ASA Program Cover Art Prize is not open to work by deceased artists. The artwork must be suitable for 2D reproduction on the cover of the Annual Program; suitable art includes, but is not limited to painting, drawing, photography, collage, or other 2D artwork, such as photograph stills of a sculpture, installation, or performance. The artwork will be reproduced with additional information, including the title of the program theme, ASA logo, and the dates and place of the Annual Meeting.

More details about the prize and the online submission form are available on the ASA website.

The deadline to submit your original artwork for the prize is April 30.
