African Cultural Studies (ACS) seeks to hire a faculty member with deep expertise in the cultural study of Southern Africa. They will consider applicants with extensive fieldwork experience in any country in Southern Africa, strong knowledge of a Southern African language, and substantial evidence of a commitment to interdisciplinary humanities-focused Africanist scholarship. They especially encourage applications from scholars working in queer studies, performance studies, visual culture, and/or cultural approaches to migration. They will give preference to applicants whose expertise does not overlap significantly with our existing faculty strengths. The successful candidate will offer courses in cultural expression, theory, and fieldwork, as well as introductory courses in African expressive cultures, and perform department, university, and community service as appropriate for faculty rank.
