Exhibition Research Assistant: Arts of Africa, Oceania, and The Americas
Summary: Assist the Associate Curator in Charge of AOA with research and relevant tasks for developing a special exhibition on African art.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct a range of research projects for the exhibition as directed by the exhibition curator. Including research on subject areas, objects, collections, and archives relevant to the exhibition content.

Assist with developing, updating, and maintaining exhibition checklist.

Assist in communicating with private and institutional collectors, lenders, and partners, collaborating scholars, and interdepartmental colleagues within the Museum.

Research and compile information as needed to facilitate the exhibition, accompanying publication, photography and rights information, education programs, and label copy, including assistance writing and editing texts.

Collaborate with Exhibitions project manager/registrar to verify that checklist information is correctly entered into Museum ‘s database, adhering to established standards and practices.

Confer with exhibition curator on a regular basis regarding status of research and projects for the exhibition and to ensure accuracy of information and use of appropriate reference material.
Qualifications: B.A. in Art History, African studies, or closely related subject required, M.A. preferred. Work closely with the Associate Curator in Charge of AOA to perform research and related tasks pertaining to a special exhibition on African art. Academic experience with African art history, history, cultural anthropology, historical or contemporary African art, and/or African oral traditions preferred. Strong library research skills, writing ability, and reading knowledge of one or more European languages (French, German, Portuguese, Dutch) required. Familiarity with an African language preferred. Excellent computer skills required. Experience with collections databases preferred.
Additional Details:
This is a fixed-term position beginning in 2020 and ending in 2023.
Minimum of Range:$17.15/hour
Status: Part-time (25 hours/week)
